Updates to YouTube’s Terms of Service

On January 5, 2022, we're updating our Terms of Service ("Terms") to help clarify and make it easier to understand what to expect as you use the service. These changes won't affect the way you use YouTube. You can review a summary of the changes and the updated Terms here.

At a glance, this update covers:

  • More clarity on what to expect: We're providing more transparency about how we develop, improve, and update our service, including more detail about the reasons we make changes and updates, and the advanced notice we provide to you.
  • General updates for improved readability: While our Terms remain a legal document, we've done our best to make them easier to understand. This includes reorganizing some sections (such as Account Suspension and Termination) and rewording others (such as Changing this Agreement).
  • Inclusion of the Community Guidelines strikes process: Your use of YouTube has always been subject to the Community Guidelines and its strikes process, but we're now explicitly including the Community Guidelines strikes information in the Terms to increase transparency. There are no changes to how Community Guidelines strikes operate, or when a channel or content might receive a strike.
  • Legal guarantee in the European Economic Area (EEA): We're summarising the legal guarantees that you receive under EEA consumer laws when you use YouTube.
  • Withdrawal rights in the European Economic Area (EEA): We're providing information about your legal right as a consumer based in the EEA to withdraw from the Terms within 14 days of agreeing to them. We're also including a copy of the EU Model Instructions on Withdrawal in case you want to exercise that right.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the updated Terms. Note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, or manage your child's use of YouTube through Family Link, take a moment to talk to them about these changes.

Thank you for being part of our global community!

Learn more about our updated Terms of Service

PlanetoftheApesmovie2011@gmail.com

On January 5, 2022, we're making some changes to our Terms of Service. These changes won't affect the way you use Google services, but they'll make it easier for you to understand what to expect from Google — and what we expect from you — as you use our services.

You can review the new terms here. We've also provided a summary of the key changes. At a glance, here's what this update means for you:

  • More clarity on what you can expect from Google and what we expect from you: We're providing more examples to describe the mutually respectful conduct that we expect from all our users. We're also providing more transparency about how we develop, improve, and update our digital content, services, and goods – including more detail about the reasons we make changes and legally-required updates, the advanced notice we provide to you, and your right to withdraw from your contract with us.
  • Legal guarantee: We're summarizing the legal guarantees that you receive under EEA consumer laws when you use our digital content, services, and goods.
  • Withdrawal right: We're providing information about your legal right to withdraw from the terms within 14 days of agreeing to them if you're a consumer based in the European Economic Area (EEA). We're also including a copy of the EU Model Instructions on Withdrawal in case you want to exercise that right.
  • Additional definitions: We're adding more explanatory text to help you understand certain legal concepts that we refer to in our terms, including "commercial guarantee", "legal guarantee", and "lack of conformity".
  • Improved readability: While our terms remain a legal document, we've done our best to make them easier to understand, including reorganizing some topics so that they're easier to find.

If you use Family Link to manage a Google Account for someone else, please take some time to talk to them about these changes.

Thank you for using Google!

Changes to YouTube’s Terms of Service

You're receiving this email because we're updating the YouTube Terms of Service ("Terms") to clarify our terms and provide transparency to our users. The Terms were similarly updated in the United States in November 2020. These changes shouldn't significantly alter your access or use of the YouTube service.

A summary of the changes:

  • Facial recognition restrictions: The Terms of Service already state that you cannot collect any information that might identify a person without their permission. While this has always included facial recognition information, the new Terms make that explicitly clear.
  • YouTube's right to monetize: YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Royalty payments and tax withholding: For creators entitled to revenue payments, such payments will be treated as royalties from a U.S. tax perspective and Google will withhold taxes where required by law.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms carefully. The new Terms will take effect on June 1, 2021 for users outside the U.S. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the new Terms. Please note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, then you are agreeing to the new Terms on behalf of your child as well.
